DIRECTOR OF PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT

Heather Senior Monroe, MSW, LCSW

Heather Senior Monroe, MSW, LCSW, is a psychotherapist and licensed clinical social worker. She specializes in treating trauma and its destructive effects on individuals and families. Heather also specializes in teenage depression and anxiety. She has worked in the fields of teen treatment and prevention for more than 10 years. Additionally, she has implemented solution-focused techniques with teenagers in a wide range of settings.

Before joining the Newport Academy team, Heather was the Director of Family Services at Partnership for Drug-Free Kids in New York City, before leaving to focus solely on trainings for families around effective prevention and workshops for adolescents in treatment centers. Prior to her work with the Partnership, Heather was cofounder and Clinical Director of Arahant Health Services, an intensive outpatient program, and maintained a private practice in Denver, Colorado.

Heather utilizes her expertise in mindfulness and expressive therapies to guide residents at Newport Academy through the healing process. She also presents regularly to middle and high schools about building connections, resiliency, and how to build healthy parent-child relationships. Heather teaches parents how to help their children deal with difficult emotions. She also helps them understand a family’s role in the development of teens. Ultimately this prepares teens for the next stage of their life as healthy, happy, and independent adults.

Newport Academy…in her own words

“As a clinician who has worked in a number of treatment settings and referred clients to various programs, Newport Academy was the only one I found that successfully applied the techniques I know to work with adolescent populations. From clinical to holistic to nutrition and experiential, Newport Academy creates an environment that is both safe and inviting for the healing process.” —Heather Senior Monroe
