DIRECTOR OF PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
Heather Senior Monroe, LCSW
Heather Senior Monroe, LCSW, is a psychotherapist and licensed clinical social worker. She specializes in treating trauma and its destructive effects on individuals and families. Heather also has expertise with teenage depression and anxiety. She has worked in the fields of teen treatment and prevention for more than 10 years. Additionally, she has implemented solution-focused techniques with teenagers in a wide range of settings.
Heather utilizes her expertise in mindfulness and expressive therapies to guide residents at Newport Academy through the healing process. She also presents regularly to middle and high schools about authentic connections, building resilience, and fostering healthy parent-child relationships. Heather teaches parents how to help their children deal with difficult emotions, and helps them to better understand a family’s role in the development of teens. Ultimately, this prepares teens for the next stage of their life as healthy, happy, and independent adults.
Prevention and Treatment
Heather served as the Director of Family Services at Partnership for Drug-Free Kids in New York City before leaving to focus solely on trainings for families and workshops for adolescents in treatment centers. Prior to her work with the Partnership, Heather was cofounder and clinical director of an intensive outpatient program, and maintained a private practice in Denver, Colorado.
Newport Academy…in her own words
“As a clinician who has worked in a number of treatment settings and referred clients to various programs, Newport Academy was the only one I found that successfully applied the techniques that I know work with adolescent populations. From clinical to holistic to nutrition and experiential therapy, Newport Academy creates an environment that is both safe and inviting for the healing process to unfold.” —Heather Senior Monroe
