Newport Academy Reviews
We know that finding the right teen treatment center can be a difficult decision, so we’ve compiled real client reviews from sources you can trust.
“Newport Academy is a solid dual diagnosis program. The team of therapists, LCDC counselors, professionals, educators and psychiatrists who work closely with the kids and families truly care. My daughter, now a young adult is in stable, consistent sobriety and college. Our family was challenged to grow and work on family dysfunction as well as work through trauma. It was not easy but the foundation and education that Newport Academy provided for us about the disease of addiction and the impact of the family system was invaluable. This is one of the few who not only do what is right, but also go above and beyond to help kids and their families. They are very ethical and I am grateful that Jamison Monroe has created this program for adolescents and families in need of help.”
“I’ve been to several treatments and Newport is at the top of my list of recommendation. I love love love the staff and I love being an alumni in this community because it is so tight knit and caring and most importantly (to me) engaging/ FUN. Something I cannot help to mention as well- I love the way this facility is outfitted. Not only are the staff meticulously vetted and hand picked and out daily schedule arranged with precision and care- other details such as the couches and rugs and wall furnishings are beautiful, every room is so visually appealing! This place is such a cozy and comfortable setting for the very serious work we get done. Everything about this program is beautiful. Aesthetically, spiritually, emotionally. I have an amazing relationship with my parents today and Newport academy helped bridge our rough communication in the early stages of my recovery. I really felt heard and advocated for and my parents needs were met as well.”
“As a two time ex-resident I have nothing but the utmost respect, gratitude and love for Newport Academy. I first went through their program in April 2010, and again in December of that year. The first time through I was not ready for what had been offered to me but have been clean and sober since arriving my second time. There program is unique, creative and binding. The alumni kids who went through the program before and after me, are my best friends.
For any parent thinking about trusting Newport with their child, I cannot express to you enough to do it.
The last thing I would like to tell you and I hope it gives you some hope, today I am a truly happy person.”
“I’m finally getting to writing this review a few years after our daughter attended Newport Academy in Newport Ca.
Bottom Line Up Front: Newport Academy saved our daughters life.
After months of going from one psychiatrist to another, one mental facility to another and too many visits to the emergency room my wife found Newport Academy and Dr. Barbara in a desperate Internet search. Lucky for us, we were able to find the money required for the deposit, we were able to get our daughter in within a few days.
We found the staff at Newport Academy to be great. They were attentive, frequently communicated with us and kept out daughter safe. We visited from Colorado every other week and attended group and family sessions as well as the local Al-Anon meetings. Dr. Barbara Nosal, with a doctorate degree in transpersonal psychology, was a godsend – she is an experienced professional that takes a no-non sense approach to helping teens. Anna, Aja, Jordan, Donata, Amy, Kelsey and many others were fantastic and will be remembered forever.
We have recommended Newport Academy to other families and they have had similar, successful results. While it appears from their web page that they are focused on drug or alcohol related issues, they do way more than that as our daughter did not have these issues and she was helped.
I highly recommend Newport Academy.”

Newport Academy Receives Joint Commission for Behavioral Health Care’s Gold Seal Of Approval
“Our lives changed forever on January 4, and I really couldn’t believe that anything could make it right again. Though a friend, and quite by accident, I learned of Newport Academy and was put in touch with their admissions coordinator. She was warm, compassionate and a true advocate for my son. From the moment he walked in the door to their beautiful facility, he was determined to leave and made that known. For three weeks he dug in his heels, and for three weeks the staff assured us that, in time, he would come around and “do the work.” I trusted them and took their advice and prayed. One Tuesday night a got a call letting me know that my son had begun to do his work. I cannot tell you how that felt.
Newport Academy treats adolescents battling depression, suicidal ideation, addiction, alcoholism, eating disorders and self-harm in an incredibly warm, loving environment. Boys and girls are housed at different facilities, six to a house. The program is based on love and compassion, along with individual, group and family therapy. Families come on alternating Saturday’s for family day, and have opportunities for family therapy during the week. There is also equine therapy, mixed martial arts, yoga and art. The days are structured and disciplined, and the terms “level up” as they complete the work assigned to them. School is also part of their day.
My son came home on Friday with hope, newly learned coping skills, and a smile on his face. I know how grateful I am for Newport, but today he told me how grateful he is. We have work to do, and staying on top of this will be a life-long journey for him. The difference is that now we are not afraid, we are empowered.
The love I have for each and every member of the Newport Academy staff is too great to express. Their knowledge, compassion and love for my son has made all the difference.”
“I am so grateful that my family decided to send me to Newport Academy! I was hesitant at first to accept help, but once I arrived at Newport Academy and saw the beautiful property and met the amazing staff, I started to open up. The staff there loved me before I could love myself and showed me what it meant to live a sober, meaningful lifestyle. The program was also gender-specific, something that definitely contributed to my success. Most importantly though, they have a one of a kind family program. My family was broken when I entered treatment and I didn’t think there was much hope for us. Today, we get along (almost) perfectly and it is without a doubt because of Newport Academy. Newport Academy saved my life and I will be forever grateful!!!!”
“I have seen the power of Newport Academy and the amount of difference their program make. I was most impressed by the family program. Families enter broken and emerging better shape and function. I have experienced the program first hand and have also met many alumni who also have equally positive experiences.”
“Newport was honestly the best treatment that i have been too. I do not know what i would have done if Carter Barnhart did not convince me to go almost two years ago. She really did save me. I’m not good a listening to people or what they have to say but for some reason Carter understood me and was always there for me when I was at Newport and now. Carter is amazing and I’m blessed to have her in my life today!”
“Simply, the best. Serenity, healing and caring by professionals in a beautiful urban environment.”
