MILIEU THERAPIST

Ashley Guerrera, MAATC

Ashley Guerrera is passionate about helping others and providing the best quality of care to her clients. From her personal experience, art helped heal the effects of trauma in her own life. As a Milieu Therapist she sees the various types of art therapy as an integral mental health modality that enriches the lives of individuals, families, and communities. Through active art-marking, the creative process, applied psychological theory, and human experience within a psychotherapeutic relationship, she is a huge proponent of all types of art therapy.

Ashley is influenced by Audrey Elizabeth Evans, a pediatric oncologist known for developing the Evans Staging System for Neuroblastoma and Alex Gray, an American visionary artist, author, teacher, and Vajrayana practitioner. Ashley has participated in specialized trainings for Mindful-Based Art Therapy, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Based Therapy, and Assessment Trainings for art therapy, psychology, risk, and Mandala (MARI). She is also has CBT, DBT, and art therapy training, including numerous other variations on these modalities. In her opinion, she excels at treating adolescents with various cancer diagnosis, trauma, anxiety, depression, gender identity issues, OCD, intellectual disabilities, and a variety of family issues including foster care, grief and loss, and domestic violence.

Newport Academy…in her own words

“I was attracted to Newport Academy because of the experiential therapies the facility offers. As an art therapist, Newport valued an important part of my identity. While working as a Milieu Therapist I get to work towards my counseling licensure (LPC) and my art therapy licensure (ATR). Every client at Newport is given a team of providers who are dedicated to improving their quality of life and fostering confidence in their abilities. Newport is a safe space for our clients to nurture their potential and capacity to create a successful future for themselves.”—Ashley Guerrera
