Newport Academy St. Cloud Campus FAQs
When is residential treatment appropriate?
Residential treatment is appropriate when a child or adolescent requires a higher level of care than outpatient services can provide. This includes situations where there is a risk of self-harm, severe mental health disorders (such as depression, anxiety, or trauma), or when the home environment is not conducive to recovery. It is also suitable for those who need intensive therapeutic support and structure.
Is residential treatment worth it?
Many families find residential treatment to be a valuable investment in their child’s mental health. The comprehensive care and support provided can lead to significant improvements in a child’s well-being, coping skills, and overall functioning.
What is the difference between residential treatment and inpatient treatment?
Residential treatment typically involves a longer stay in a facility that focuses on therapeutic interventions and skill-building in a home-like environment. It is often less intensive than inpatient treatment, which is usually provided in a hospital setting for acute mental health crises. Inpatient treatment is designed for stabilization and may involve more medical oversight, while residential treatment focuses on ongoing therapy and support.
