Newport Academy Creekside FAQs

How effective are residential treatment centers?

Research indicates that residential treatment centers can be effective in addressing severe mental health issues. They provide structured environments, individualized treatment plans, and access to a range of therapeutic modalities. Many adolescents show significant improvement in their mental health and coping skills after completing a residential program.

What is the difference between residential treatment and inpatient treatment?

Residential treatment typically involves a longer stay in a facility that focuses on therapeutic interventions and skill-building in a home-like environment. It is often less intensive than inpatient treatment, which is usually provided in a hospital setting for acute mental health crises. Inpatient treatment is designed for stabilization and may involve more medical oversight, while residential treatment focuses on ongoing therapy and support.

What happens at residential treatment at Newport Academy Creekside?

Our patients experience a structured daily schedule that includes therapeutic interventions, including individual, group, and family therapies, as well as experiential therapies, such as art, music, equine, or outdoor Adventure Therapy. Adolescents also work with academic teachers on an accredited curriculum to keep up with their studies while receiving treatment.

How do I know if my child needs residential treatment?

If you’re concerned about your child’s mental health, look for signs such as ongoing emotional turmoil, significant behavioral changes, self-harming tendencies, thoughts of suicide, substance misuse, or difficulties in daily functioning at school or home. If outpatient therapy has not yielded positive results, or if your child is at risk of harming themselves or others, it may be time to explore residential treatment options.
