Who We Treat

Rodeo House, our clinical experts and care staff for the program have expertise and experience in addressing the mental health challenges that LGBTQ+ youth face. Our program serves LGBTQ+/nonbinary teens ages 12–17.

Newport has partnered with The Trevor Project, the nation’s foremost LGBTQ+ advocacy and research organization, to provide specialized training for our staff.

We address the underlying trauma that causes mental health concerns and behavioral issues using a scientific and compassionate approach to treatment. Our goal is to guide teens to build resilience, practice self-regulation, and manage life stressors using healthy coping skills.

How do I know if my child needs residential treatment?

Signs that your child may need residential treatment include persistent emotional distress, severe behavioral issues, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, substance use, or an inability to function in daily life (e.g., at school or home). If traditional outpatient therapy has not been effective, or if your child poses a danger to themselves or others, it may be time to consider residential treatment.

Will insurance cover the cost of care?

Newport works with major insurance providers both inand out of network to help cover the cost of care. Our admissions team can work with you to verify your benefits and help you understand what is avaialble to you under your insurance plan.

What happens in residential treatment at Newport's Rodeo House?

Rodeo House is exclusive to teens who identify as LGBTQ+. Patients experience a structured daily schedule that includes therapeutic interventions, including individual, group, and family therapies, as well as experiential therapies, such as art, music, or outdoor Adventure Therapy. Our curriculum includes groups addressing experiences related to LGBTQ+ issues, identity, gender dysphoria, the coming-out process, social acceptance, and more.
