Jamison Monroe, Jr.

Founder / CEO

“Jamison is the missing link that connects old school recovery to the future of successful addiction treatment. His presence in the recovery landscape is paramount to the evolution of the industry and imperative for addiction to become de-stigmatized by popular culture.”

- Leonard Buschell, founder of Writers In Treatment

With years of personal recovery experience, compassionate and effective treatment of adolescent substance abuse is mission critical to Jamison Monroe. Raised in what might have appeared like an idyllic childhood environment, Jamison began his decent into alcohol and drug abuse as a teen, while hiding behind that all too familiar ‘happy family” facade. As a teen, Jamison was admitted to a number of well-known treatment programs where he would remain sober for a handful of months before relapsing. Despite a supportive family, Jamison remained in this life-threatening cycle until he was admitted to a treatment center that focused on personalized, comprehensive and holistic treatment that allowed him to safely address his individual underlying issues, while balancing an effective amount of family involvement.

Today, Jamison lives mindfully in his recovery, coming to the realization early in his sober journey that working in the field and helping other adolescents and young adults find the gift of sobriety was what gave him the most personal satisfaction. As a result, Jamison has held a number of positions in the field, such as Counselor, Director of Operations and Executive Director at facilities that assist others battling substance abuse and mental health disorders. Jamison is now fulfilling his vision by operating a center of excellence for the treatment of teenage mental health and substance abuse, and comprehensive family reconstruction. A facility where adolescents and their families are treated with care and respect, while one of the most highly qualified treatment teams in the field guides their collective and unique journey. Newport Academy is the culmination of Jamison’s journey and desire to create an unrivaled setting to help teens and their families recover from the destructive effects of substance abuse and co-occurring disorders.

Beyond overseeing the vision of Newport Academy, Jamison is immersed in multiple facets of the battle against addiction and is recognized by his peers as a conduit between the past, present and future of recovery. Jamison is exceedingly passionate about education and awareness and to that end, serves on the board of directors for several non-profits and some of the world’s most progressive creative thinking projects such as Global Adolescent ProjectC4 Recovery Solutions, Los Angeles’ StartingBloc Founding Circle, Writers In Treatment and is a Recovery Month planning partner for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

Currently, Jamison can be seen on CNN, FOX, and ABC where he regularly appears as an addiction and mental health correspondent.
