Adventure Coordinator and Assistant Martial Arts Instructor
Pete Gaffey combines a background in mental healthcare with extensive experience in experiential therapy activities. He has 12 years of training in martial arts, in disciplines including jujitsu, mixed martial arts, Jeet Kune Do, American-style boxing, and Muay Thai, a combat sport from Thailand.
Before joining the Newport Academy team in 2015, Pete worked as a therapeutic recreations supervisor at the Children’s Center of Hamden in Hamden, Connecticut. His prior positions include roles at several Connecticut-based organizations: mental health worker at the Boys and Girls Village Inc., in Milford; therapist at the Institute of Professional Practice in Meriden; and therapeutic mentor at Community Residences, Inc.
