Individual and Family Therapist
Michelle De Simas, LMFT
Michelle De Simas witnessed two family members struggle with mental illness and addiction, and saw firsthand how beneficial it was for them to have support in the recovery process. As a result, she was inspired to enter the treatment field. Today, Michelle is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who excels in treating the symptoms and behaviors associated with anxiety and depression. She is trained in multiple modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, and Attachment-Based Family Therapy.
Before coming to Newport Academy in 2018, Michelle worked for six years in the community mental health sector in Los Angeles, maintaining a caseload of up to 50 clients. In this role, she provided individual therapy, group therapy, case management, and brief family interventions. In addition, she was involved in assessment, diagnosing, documentation, and chart reviews.
