Jessica Brooks, MS
Jessica Brooks brings 10+ years of experience to her role as a Counselor at Newport Academy. As a child, Jessica has always been passionate about helping others. After personally struggling with mental health issues throughout her adolescence, she was inspired to help others facing similar issues. Her biggest influence is a former professor who also acted as her thesis advisor during her graduate studies. This professor was extremely dedicated to his students, clients, and colleagues, and his client-centered, collaborative approach was highly influential on Jessica’s therapeutic style.
Jessica has been trained in motivational interviewing, CBT, TF-CBT, DBT, crisis management, aggression replacement therapy, trauma-informed care, and client engagement. She first utilizes meditational interview to build initial rapport with clients before encouraging changes to their behavior and habits. Jessica incorporating skill review and practice into her individual counseling sessions, especially when working with clients who have emotion dysregulation. Further, Jessica runs group sessions on DBT once a week. In her opinion, she excels at treating adolescents with anxiety and depression, as well as youth who have experienced trauma.
