Clinical Perspective

Prakash K. Thomas, MD, is an adult, adolescent, and child psychiatrist who values working with Newport Academy clients and observing their growth. In addition to his clinical experience, Dr. Thomas taught English as a second language to college students for two years in China and, as a result, increased his perspective on adolescents and their developmental challenges.

Skilled Teacher, Mentor, and Author

Dr. Thomas has held various professional appointments, including supervising physicians in training nurses, psychologists, and social workers. He also teaches psychiatrists and medical students, and has written scholarly articles and books on psychiatry and children. Dr. Thomas’ clinical experience encompasses both private practice in New Haven, Connecticut, and staff positions at Yale New Haven Hospital, Clifford W. Beers Guidance Clinic, Inc., and Yale’s Developmental Disability Clinic.

Newport Academy…in his own words

“As a psychiatrist, it is one of the chief rewards of my work here to stitch together the different therapeutic perspectives on each of our clients to create a unique and unified framework for growth, change, and healing. It is a privilege to work with adolescents as they share their highest hopes and worst fears during this fascinating period of development. And, as they begin to discern who they are and who they could be, they touch upon the most meaningful questions of living. Newport Academy grants me the privilege to listen, to treat, and to guide them during their stay.”  —Prakash Thomas
