David Melear, M.Ed
David Melear brings to his role at Newport Academy 26 years in the field of mental health, 12 of those in executive leadership. David entered executive management with the intention of doing all he could to nurture and support teams dedicated to organizational growth, provision of care, and alignment of values and purpose. As a result, he greatly appreciates the opportunity to help others grow and develop their potential.
“Rebuilding” is the theme of David’s career thus far. He has successfully worked to rebuild teams, rebuild census, and rebuild energy and vitality. Moreover, his experience encompasses a variety of program types, ranging from acute psychiatric hospitals and clinical boarding schools to residential treatment centers and long-term psychiatric residential treatment.
After he entered the mental health field as a direct-care staff, David’s career advanced to include executive director positions for the private residential program Innercept, LLC; the CRC Health Group/Aspen Education Center; Island View/Aspen Institute; and Wellspring Academy of California. He also served as chief operating officer for Universal Health Services, Inc., and as CEO of Rivercrest Hospital and Provo Canyon School. Along with rebuilding, David’s leadership roles have focused on change management and vision implementation.
