Amber Perez, LCSW
Amber Perez has made it her lifelong goal to support others. During her childhood, she struggled with performance anxiety, ADHD and social anxiety, depression, and was the child of an alcoholic. Unfortunately, she didn’t get the help or support she needed as a teen. As a result, she decided to become a family therapist. Amber believes family relationships play a pivotal role in teen’s self-confidence and she wants to ensure they know what healthy how to have healthy relationships for the long term. Amber is certified in MDFT as a therapist and a supervisor. She has also been trained on ABFT (advanced level), DBT, risk connections, and normative approach, and she has her TF-CBT certification. While completing her master’s degree, she specialized in children and families which is very useful for her role as a family therapist at Newport Academy.
In her opinion, she excels at working with adolescents and families to improve relationships and communication. Her goal is always to help clients improve their self-worth. Prior to joining Newport Academy, Amber was a Clinical Supervisor who supported two therapists and a case manager as part of NAFI’s MDFT Program. She has also worked as a therapist for Webster House where she provided support to medically complex youth that had been referred by the Department of Children and Families.
Newport Academy…in her own words
“Newport Academy’s holistic and experiential approach drew me to the agency. The amount of therapeutic support offered compared to what is offered in nonprofits is helpful with supporting youth in gaining control over their mental health and substance abuse needs. Newport has a higher standard of excellence which is evident in the care they provide and who provides that care.”—Amber Perez
