Alex Merlo chose a career in healthcare because of his passion for working with kids and helping plant positive seeds (and habits) in their lives. Alex names his past supervisors and professors as his biggest influences and is very grateful to have worked under them. He originally decided to become a primary therapist due to family struggles he experienced growing up. Alex specializes in attachment-based family therapy (ABFT), as well as treating substance abuse, depression, anxiety, and family conflict and defiance. He also enjoys working with patients who have conditions associated with autism.
Before joining Newport Academy, Alex worked as a primary therapist at the Center for Discovery, as a unit therapist at Vista del Mar and at the Jewish Family Center.
