Abby MacKinnel, ATR-BC, CLAT, LPC
Abby MacKinnel is an individual therapist for eating disorders, as well as clinical art therapist at Newport Academy. Abby believes in a holistic approach to wellness and chose to become an art therapist because art has always been therapeutic in her own life. She loves helping patients feel centered and grounded and has found art therapy to be an effective tool to use in both individual and group therapy sessions. In addition to her qualification as a Board-Certified Art Therapist, Abby has completed specialized workshops in EFT, DBT, and FBT modalities and has completed smart recovery training. She uses a variety of these treatment methods in both individual and group therapy sessions for patients and their families.
Abbey uses her 5+ years of experience to treat eating disorders, anxiety, depression, trauma, and body image issues in patients. Prior to joining Newport Academy, Abby worked at the Art Connection Studio in Hartford, at the Connecticut Mental Health Center in New Haven, and at the Walden Behavioral Care in Guilford as a clinical art therapist.
