Has your teen fallen behind? We can help.

Is your teen struggling with their mental health? Have they fallen behind socially and/or academically? Are you worried about how they’ll cope as they return to the world?

Get your teen back on track this summer with our integrative approach to mental health treatment. The Newport Academy Summer Outpatient Program is especially tailored for teens who are experiencing anxiety, depression, or other mental health concerns, and who may be falling behind in their academic progress as a result. Through a comprehensive, evidence-based plan tailored for each individual and incorporating a robust family therapy component, we help teens and families reestablish a solid foundation for thriving.

“The Newport Academy team was ahead of the curve in launching remote care for their outpatient programs. Having that infrastructure in place when the pandemic hit earlier this year enabled them to shift all outpatient services to virtual formats almost immediately.”

Atlanta Statistics

Prior to the pandemic, one out of every 10 adolescents in Georgia suffered from major depression. That number has skyrocketed during 2020, with national surveys showing that 70 to 80 percent of young people are struggling with mental health issues. Our outpatient program in Atlanta addresses these needs while providing both teens and families with supportive peer communities.

At Newport Academy, we partner with schools to optimize success for clients in our outpatient mental health treatment programs. Our certified teachers use comprehensive assessments in a strengths-based approach, helping students identify the areas where they thrive, and then supporting them to harness their passions to set themselves up for a bright future. We can either partner with your teen’s current school curriculum, or our licensed teachers and tutors can help your teen continue to excel while receiving treatment in a compassionate therapeutic environment. As clients make strides in their treatment, we work with their schools to gradually reintegrate them in a way that creates the highest potential for success.

How It Works

Our Unique Approach to Treatment

At Newport Academy, we partner with schools to optimize success for clients in our outpatient mental health treatment programs. Teens in our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) spend time in the classroom and with specialized tutors each day, exploring their strengths and passions while continuing to make progress in tandem with their grade-level requirements. As clients make strides in their treatment, we work with their schools to gradually reintegrate them in a way that creates the highest potential for success.

Our Clinical Model

Upon joining the program, each client receives an individualized treatment plan that includes evidence-based modalities such as CBT, DBT, and experiential therapy. The plan builds upon individual strengths that were achieved prior to the pandemic, and is tailored for each individual’s specific goals and needs.

Benefits of Our Summer Outpatient Program

Reintegration into the Community

As communities reopen and teens readjust to more in-person interaction, many young people are experiencing an increase in depression and anxiety, including social anxiety. The collective trauma experienced over the past year, combined with academic disengagement and not feeling ready for the future, accentuates these issues. Now more than ever, teens and their families need specialized therapeutic and academic options to address adolescent mental health issues, which have become increasingly common during these challenging times.

Academic Progress & Executive Functioning Gains

Our Summer Outpatient Program is specifically designed to help young people overcome their mental health challenges while continuing to progress academically and gaining the tools needed for age-appropriate executive functioning. Upon intake, students will be assessed by licensed teachers, and then personalized courses targeting each student’s gaps will be generated. Credit recovery options are available for students who have failed a class this year or who missed pertinent instruction. With the help of certified teachers and math and science tutors on site, students have access to instructional support while progressing in their academics.

In addition, executive function skills support will be provided in an effort to help students who are struggling with attentional issues, organization, planning and time management, and emotional regulation gain their footing and get back on track. Through group lessons and workshops, students will gain valuable knowledge and skills that will help them improve motivation and success in the next school year.

Signs That Your Teen May Benefit from Our Program

  • Has your teen expressed concerns about returning to school?
  • Has your teen had a hard time academically over the last year?
  • Has your teen felt isolated and unable to engage in activities they once loved?
  • Does your teen feel a lack of motivation?
  • Is your teen suffering from apathy and boredom?

All of these might be signs that your teen’s well-being levels have dropped, and clinical and academic intervention are critical at this moment.

““We meet our kids where they are and find what works best for them to explore the issues they’re dealing with. For some, that’s music; for some, it’s art; for some, recreation; for some, academics. We find that little niche where we can begin to work with them, and having such a broad spectrum of services makes a huge difference.”

Our Levels of Care

We know that each teen is unique, and it is essential for them to receive the level of care that is right for them. That’s why the Newport Academy Summer Outpatient Program offers three options: a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), and a weekly Outpatient Program.

What is the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)?

Our Partial Hospitalization Program offers all-day, Monday–Friday programming, including academics to help teens make up for lost time and progress, and 4–5 hours of clinical programming each day. This is our highest level of outpatient care, for teens who need daily support and structure in a therapeutic environment.

What is the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)?

The Intensive Outpatient Program is designed for teens who are able to meet their academic or vocational goals outside of treatment but need support to return to a higher level of well-being, confidence, and hope. Newport Academy’s IOP program is three hours per day, Monday–Friday, and provides individual, family, and group therapy.

What is the Outpatient Program?

Outpatient treatment offers a flexible schedule, with the number of days/hours based on the individual’s clinical needs as well as their personal goals and the goals of the family. Our Outpatient Program may segue into or overlap with our Continuing Care program, which provides support for clients and families via text and live video sessions.

A Snapshot of Our Outpatient Program’s Therapeutic Offerings
