Did you know that if a person uses drugs or alcohol before the age of 15, they are 90% likely to develop a substance abuse problem? There are 70 million people in the United States with substance abuse issues and most of them go untreated.
If someone uses for the first time between ages 15-17, they are 50% likely to develop an issue, but if they wait until after 18 years old, the chances of developing a problem significantly decrease. If you are reading this, you are probably under 18 though and fall into one of the first two categories.
The reason that the odds of developing a problem are so great for those that begin use earlier is the fact that the brain is still developing rapidly during these teen years and is very susceptible to the chemicals that we ingest. At Newport Academy, we don’t just tell you not to use drugs (because that obviously worked), we actually educate you on exactly what drugs and alcohol do to your brain functions and how they alter your chemistry. We have some of the best doctors and counselors on the planet and they’ve all been in your shoes before and lived to tell about it.
Don’t be too intimated by the idea of going to treatment, we make it as interesting and engaging as it can be and we actually have fun, too.
If you don’t do drugs, but are suffering from trauma, eating disorders or depression, we can help you, too. Give us a call and we can talk about your problems and how best we can help you.
